To hear God’s voice, turn down the world’s volume.

May I say……Devotion for the day

Text:1 Kings 19:11-12 (New International Version) The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by."

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

Theme: To hear God’s voice, turn down the world’s volume.

Dear beloved brother and sister, how are you doing? Hope you are doing well. Many of you might be wondering why I did not write the devotionals for the past two days.

I was going through the toughest time of test of faith and patience. God showed up in my despair and disappointed time where I could hear His still small voice saying “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it”. 1 Thessalonians 5:24

Some of you might be going through a tough time in you family, job, finances and marriage. Let me encourage you with God’s word from today’s text.

Years ago when people had ice boxes instead of refrigerators, a man working in an ice plant lost a valuable watch in the sawdust in which the ice was stored. His fellow workmen searched with him, but were unable to find it. They left the plant for lunch and returned to find a young boy with the watch. When they enquired how he found it, the boy replied, “I just lay down in the sawdust and heard it ticking.” With all the noisy machinery turned off and a person predisposed to listen, the watch wasn’t hard to find at all.

As Elijah stood on Mount Horeb, he was treated to a spectular display of God’s power. A great wind reduced mighty boulders to pebbles. An earthquake shook the ground. Then the mountain was bathed in fire. Each of these was a manifestation of God’s power, but they were not God. It was not until all the noise had stopped that Elijah found God Himself in a still, small voice.

Today it’s hard to get away from the noise. The hubbub of the city, the noise of work place, the cry of children, the noises of wife and husband, the blare of radio or television, the noise of your doubts and depression in your mind- all contribute to a cacophony in the midst of these things, intimate communion with God is nearly impossible. That’s why it’s essential that we seek a quite place where we can hear God’s still, small voice.

My quite place is my upper room in my office where I do all my study and prayers or some times my closet where I can hear God’s still, small voice.

Find a place today where you can shut out the noise of the world. Ask God to calm your mind and remove the clamor that so often fills it. Tune your heart to listen for His voice and discover His intimacy. Get alone. Be still. Stay quite. Hear God.

Elijah had listened to Jezebel’s threats and the voice of his own fear, so he fled to a cave to hide. What are the fears and threats that are gripping you heart today? We need a place to reduce the pressures of life. God has provided a way to “spiritually decompress.” A personal devotional time can be a place where burdens are lifted (Mark 1:35-39). There we can cast all our care upon Him (1 Peter 5:7). By focusing on God’s sufficiency we can experience his peace (Isa.26:3).

So do you have a place of spiritual decompression? Where you can hear God’s still, small voice

Remembers:

Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength- Isaiah 40:31

Have a blessed day
