Devotion for the day:Did you cross over Jabbok River?

Good morning, how are you doing today? Hope you are well.

Today is the 13 day of the New Year; let me ask you a question. Are you moving forward or backward in your life? Let’s examine our lives in light of God’s word.

Today’s devotion is taken from Genesis chapter 32:

Theme: Did you cross over Jabbok River

Here in this chapter we see Jacob preparing himself to meet his brother Esau. How would you feel if you knew you were about to meet the person you had cheated out of his most precious possessions? Jacob had taken Esau’s birthright (25:53) and his blessing (27:27-40). Now he was about to meet this brother for the first time in 20 years, and he was gripped with fear.

He collected his thoughts, however he decided to pray. And then crossed the Jabbok River. The moment he crossed the Jabbok River he had an encounter with God. Jabbok (yabboq) means – Place of change. Today it is called Wadi Zerqa, flowing westward into the Jordan about 20 miles north of the Dead Sea.

When we cross over from our old ways, old habits, old paths, old life style then God will allow fresh blessing to flow into our lives. Once Jacob crossed Jabbok he was not Jacob any more but he was transformed into Israel.

In the same way my dear brother and sister if you are experiencing fear, uncertain situations in your life and family. Just pause and pray and ask God to give you a fresh start with transformation in your life and situations. God wants to bless you with a breakthrough you have been waiting on for so long provided you are prepared to cross over and plead with God for your situation and circumstances.

Are you prepared to cross over Jabbok or are you holding on to something which you should let go off? The choice is yours.

Be assured of His grace presence and blessing as you cross over and run to His presence where ever you are.

Have a blessed day, will catch up tomorrow for another insight from God’s word.

Be Blessed

John Spurgeon
