Devotion for the day
Genesis 2:24

It takes two to make a marriage a success and only one to make it a failure. Herbert Samuel.

In today’s devotion we will look at the essence of marriage. I and my dear wife Zion just returned from a great marriage retreat. It was such a refresher for me. I am always in the business of teaching, preaching or reaching out to some one, however in this marriage retreat I was just listening. Sometimes it is good to remind ourselves of the grand plan for marriage spelled out in scripture.

Dear Brother and Sister, pay attention to what you are about to read.

Marriage creates one new family out of two: Genesis 2:23 -24says: And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Two different personalities, different mentalities, different views coming together to become is the essence of marriage

Marriage provides a pure outlet for a divinely designed desire: 1 Corinthians 7:2 says: Because of sexual immorality let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. We are living in a deprived fallen world where there are so much sexual immoralities. Now a day’s we don’t have meaning for sexual purity in the culture we live.

Marriage forms a mutually helpful team: Proverbs 31:11-12 says: The heart of her husband safely trusts in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Wife and husband are a team. We should not operate as individuals but deeply concerned about the well being, love, affection and emotions of each other.

Marriage God’s way brings a man and a woman together to honor Him and help society. Celebrate marriage for the ways it brings us together in God’s name. If men and women yield to God and his love partake, the marriage bond that joins two hearts no power on earth can break.

Thought for the day: God created husband and wife to complement each other.
