May I say…….Devotion for the day, February 4th
Text: 1 Kings 18:1-8
Theme: Go and Tell
Good morning dear beloved, did you have a good night’s rest? Hope you did.
Grab a cup of hot coffee as we study God’s word this morning.
Today we study in our text that God speaks to His servant after three long years and say, “Go, show yourself to Ahab,” Notice carefully three years earlier God had said, “There is going to be a drought in the land. There will be neither rain nor dew until I say so.” Now he says, “I will send rain.”
When Obadiah met Elijah, he received marching orders. (Verse 7). Elijah spoke as from the Lord when he said, “Go and tell.” “Go to your master, Ahab, one of the most godless kings who ever ruled Israel, and tell him that the spokesman for God is back in the land.” This was not a suggestion; it was not a recommendation; it was a command. Obadiah was afraid. He said, “Are you sending me to my death? If I go and tell Ahab you’re here and you disappear on me, Ahab will kill me.” But in spite of his fears, Obadiah obeyed
Dear friend, what about you? When there is an opportunity to share the good news of Jesus Christ are you afraid to share it or do you fear that people may look down on you.
We receive the free gift of salvation from God but we are reluctant to share that gift with others. Let me ask you a question? If some one gives a precious gift won’t you share it with your family, friends and neighbors, and colleagues? Of course you will.
Then why don’t you share the most precious gift of salvation which you’ve received through the blood of Jesus Christ.
When Christ met His disciples after the resurrection, he gave the same orders. Go!
Go therefore and make disciples (Matthew 28:19. Tell! Teaching them to observe all things. (V.20). These, too, are not open for discussion. We may have our fears, but Christ’s commands are our marching orders.
Are you willing to “Go and Tell”? Perhaps it’s “Go and Tell” you next door neighbor; you own family member or some one at work or may be even someone who lives half way around the world.
What ever the case, obedience to the Lord is the only way to handle your fears. When we trust and obey, God has a way of taking care of our fears. Like he did for Obadiah. God has a way of taking care of our fears. Our orders are clear; Go and tell!
Dear brothers and sisters, what are your fears today? Is it your Finances, Health, Problems in your Marriage, Relationships, waiting for to long for a Husband or Wife? Or may be it’s your Past which is haunting you and disturbing your Present. Or may be you are afraid of sharing Christ with others.
Just lay them at the feet of Jesus and he will be with you. Jesus was with the disciples physically until he ascended into heaven and then spiritually through the Holy Spirit .(Acts 1:4).
The Holy Spirit would be Jesus’ presence that would never leave them or you (John 14:26).
Jesus continues to be with you and me today through His Spirit.
Which reminds me of an old hymn Trust and obey there is no other way… check this song in you tube and listen to the words. As you listen ask the Holy Spirit God to deliver you from each and every fear you’re battling in your life.
